Safeguarding Policy

Our commitment to the safety, welfare and dignity of every learner.

Last updated: September 2026

Commitment

Horsfall Education is committed to protecting the safety, welfare and dignity of every child and young person. Concerns will be taken seriously and handled in accordance with current safeguarding guidance.

Safeguarding responsibility

Juliet Horsfall is responsible for safeguarding within Horsfall Education and holds an Enhanced DBS certificate. She can be contacted at juliet@horsfall-education.com.

Professional boundaries

Relationships with learners will remain professional and appropriate. Communication with learners under 18 will normally take place through, or with the knowledge of, their parent or guardian. Personal social-media accounts will not be used to communicate with learners.

Online tuition

Online lessons should take place in an appropriate shared or study space. A parent or responsible adult should be available during lessons for younger learners, although they do not need to remain in the room unless this has been agreed. Lessons will not be recorded without the prior written agreement of the parent or guardian and, where appropriate, the learner.

In-person tuition

Lessons will take place in an appropriate environment. Parents should provide relevant information about access, health, safety and additional needs before tuition begins.

Photographs and information

Photographs, recordings, testimonials or identifiable information about a learner will not be published without appropriate permission.

Disclosures and concerns

If a learner shares information suggesting that they or another person may be at risk, confidentiality cannot be promised. Concerns will be recorded factually and shared only with an appropriate person or organisation. This may include a parent or guardian, local authority children’s services, the police or another safeguarding agency. Where there is an immediate risk of harm, the emergency services will be contacted.

Conduct

Abusive, discriminatory, threatening or otherwise inappropriate behaviour will not be accepted. A lesson may be ended if continuing would be unsafe or inappropriate.

Review

This policy will be reviewed annually, or sooner if guidance, legislation or working practices change.
